She’s tiny,
golden locks askew
and mouth tinted blue
by candy and amusement.
There’s a whole world
in her smile
and I wish I could know her,
just for a little while.

The heron knows we’re here
but pretends she doesn’t,
one eye on the mirrored water,
plumes loose in breeze.
Then,
too close!
spreads her wings
and makes a runway of this lake.

great stones De, both of them – really like the heron one as have been near one when it took off and heard that magnificent wing span whoosh … regal birds
I agree with Sharon. We have a small pond near us, but Atlanta is on an emigration route for birds, so we see the occasional heron. Your description is as I see it in memory. Stone 4 I find compelling, but your poetry pulls, no matter what.
ah, i don’t know which one i like better- personal fav is thwe first one, the last two lines are absolute corkers. poetic fav is the heron- ‘runway of this lake’ is just too beautiful
Love the painted blue lips and runway of this lake! Perfect!!
