…..
She’s an egg
shattered,
contents splattered
far and wide.
She’s a life
divided,
light provided
but held inside.
She’s a song
unsung
and a phrase unflung
and a still-born dream.
She is broken
shell;
some heart as well,
but there’s grace between.

Oh wow, this is pow-er-ful—you know, with the timing and all. How clever to spin RvW into sushi rolls.
I love that this could be read as being about the mommy or the baby. Just beautiful, dear. What a meaningful poem. I’d like to write one someday.
PS: I don’t watch the news, ever, so I don’t know what you mean by “timing and all.”
Holy cow. I think I need a new title. I was going for “Rules Of Engagement” and roe, as in eggs (that are often eaten.) Yikes. Didn’t mean to get political with this, at all.
Or maybe it’s okay, even in that light…speaks of grace for those who might be struggling with a past decision…hmmmm.
It’s like the 40-year anniversary. Yesterday actually. I heard something on the radio this morning; that’s the only reason I knew.
It didn’t feel like you were getting political; it was beautiful … and you ended with grace. Girl, I have seen political poems, and this is not one.
Plus also, whew. Because I prefer poetics to politics. Every.day.
I never would have caught “rules of engagement.” You should just add periods.
I never “all cap” titles, so thought maybe it might translate. Adding dotties now.
I now love the word “dotties.” It makes me think of Dippin’ Dots, which I adore! Have you ever considered how close to one another the words “adore” and “abhor” are? And now that I think of it, “abhor” and “ab whore.”
De!! I love this!!! All of it and this:
“She’s a song
unsung
and a phrase unflung
and a still-born dream.”
So inspired.
I don’t watch news either…hmm…I don’t know what’s going on either…Marie was upset by something in her PA response….part of me really doesn’t want to know. :/
♥ ya
ALL of me doesn’t want to know. Can’t take it.
I know exactly what you mean my fragile hearted friend. Much love.
I love this. I DO watch the news but don’t know how this was interpret by your other reader. I mean, often people interpret my stuff in a way that makes me seem much smarter and more clever than I really am. I just giggle and thank them.
I also want to share the writing, by Ann Voskamp, that inspired this piece.

ah, beautiful! every word!
Interesting that I could read this politically or sensually or sexually . . . rolled into one, it is a thing of beauty–the egg, the life, the song–and then the breaking and still the grace–I will think of these images when cooking, when dreaming, when helping a friend for a while. Your images linger.
Wow! I just hit the link two comments up. I’m back to thank you for sharing one of the most amazing and giving readings I’v had in a while. iT MAKES ME READ YOU A BIT DIFFERENTLY–BUT NOT BVERY DIFFERENTLY–as I measure those thoughts from where I stand in a new life.
A wonderful melody of De words!
