Miscalculations

1+1=2

we=me+you

she crunches the sequence
again and again
it works well on paper
in theory, but then…

after sine and cosine,
all amounts to a sigh.

in sum: when it really counts,
numbers do lie.

    Simple and profound. Nice write.

    Ouch! Very clever word play here. Who ever said there was safety in numbers?

  4. No, my dear, the numbers don’t lie: people do. Great, as usual. Don’t you want to try sucking at writing for while, like me? Nah, probably wouldn’t come so easily to you as it does for me. 🙂

    Mosk, you’re hilarious. I’ve just paid you a visit, and obviously, ’tis YOU who lie. No suckage whatsoever.

    (And thanks, all.)

  6. De, this is so darn clever…and sadly, too often true.

    love the calculations- math I’ve found lends itself and its advanced concepts and theories so well to the philosophical avenues in poetry. Short piece here, but you painted a clear picture in a really nice way. Enjoyed the read. Nice job. Thanks

    Numbers don’t lie – but they can suffer terrible abuse at the hands (and tongues) of those who want to use them to bolster their own positions (and egos). I think it was Mark Twain (when in doubt blame Twain!) who said, “There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.” Sadly it’s all too true.

  14. Very clever. I enjoyed that.
