They run together like
indigo ink, Lake water throwing back
perfect sky, blue eyes flashing
with sandy, wave-lapped laughter.
These summers
these liquid weeks
flow into our souls
and slip so quickly through our
hands. The footprints of our kids
on these sands, 2, then 3 and 4 and 5
and this year will mark 9 and 10,
droplets of moments, mere days each year
spent blowing bubbles and sprinkling seaglass
and naming stars
and watching sparklers trail moonlight.
We dwell here, and breathe, walk, write
and leave better, whole. And we know
as we mark off land-locked days and
search for tiny fairydust grains
in suitcases, pockets
that she waits for us,
steady, ready
true blue.

(Impossible for me to choose just one.)
“They run together like indigo ink” … You totally wrote this line for me, didn’t you? I LOVE the word “indigo.”
Love these also:
“These summers these liquid weeks”
“We dwell here, and breathe”
“search for tiny fairydust grains in suitcases, pockets”
Beautiful! And, as you will see if you read my story, I can definitely relate! Wonderful write! I know the feelings so well!

The love in this is sheer magic, de, tears flow from the depth of this beauty you’ve shared. Thank you so much. ❤
Ahhh… love it, De! Takes me there. What Shawna said,,, and also, “…she waits for us,
steady, ready true blue. ” — this perfectly describes how I feel about our own ” Sapphire Summer” place”.
and you KNOW I love this…”We dwell here, and breathe, walk, write
and leave better, whole. And we know
as we mark off land-locked days and
search for tiny fairydust grains
in suitcases,” =)
I love the way you completely weaved in all the images of blues, or at least made me imagine blue…and in SO many different ways! Perfect penning!!! ADORE! ♥
Thank you!
De- Another lovely piece my dear Sunday sister… it sounds like you’re making some wonderful memories for your children, too.
