When We Knew

(a Lipogram)

The moment you
no longer thought
of me, no longer
sought from me
one ounce worth
green, or blue
we knew
we were gone.

These lost
elements of me,
some lone crumb
of you, now unseen.
Gone. Went. Been.
No
thought for
whenwherewhy,
you went rogue
for one
moment,
cost us sun, moon
sky.

A “Lipogram” is simply a poem that completely avoids the use of one or more letters. This one is called a “Beautiful Outlaw,” a Lipogram avoiding all of the letters in a name.
Conjuring a villain from my past, we can subtitle this poem Avoiding “David.”

  1. That’s awesome. I need to try one of those.

Jerry! Thank you so much for stopping by. I had heard of a lipogram, but had never tried one, but as soon as I read about the “Beautiful Outlaw” variation, I was SOLD. 😉

I love the thought of lost elements and so perfect a poem to describe one to be avoided in such a deep way. Excellency!

I haven’t tried my hand at this form, yet today, because I thought it might be too complicated for me. However, you did an outstanding job.

I’m impressed. I had a hard enough time writing a lipogram w/ just one letter missing.

  8. Well done, De! What an interesting concept, and you pulled it off perfectly! 🙂

“you went rogue for one moment” … A lot of trouble can happen in just one moment. Another great one, De.
