Phantom Heart

Meter out some beat
no longer worthy;
help me un
-count these
days and petals
blown.

I shall gauge my
grief in shallow
breaths and time
unraveled slow.

Shhh
, quiet, Love.
It’s not your fault.

But
leave me now
to weigh my salt.

  1. Laurie Kolp says:

This really touches my heart, De.

  2. Irene says:

    Ooh, that last line..

  3. I love that second stanza – “time unraveled slow.”
This is a very powerful poem – one of your gems, for sure, that I could (and will) read again and again.
