…..
Let’s give a laugh and a
half to someone who needs it;
fart in the general direction of
the fear that makes us wear
-y. Got your googly eyes? Let’s
surprise someone whose tears
need dried, let’s prize laughter
above all this steadfast achieve
-ment. (Where’s a good old
fashioned movie pratfall when
you need it?)
Clowns are freaky, so we’ll stick
to normal-sized noses, but
let’s supposes that we can turn
someone’s frown to a smile.
Let’s walk a mile in silly shoes,
and choose to skip instead of
run; let’s make proper fun of all
things prim. Let’s hold whim
to breeze and watch her sing,
let’s pllllllt at progress ’cuz
here’s the thing:
We’re all just doing the best
we can. Some days shine and
others dim, and sometimes
you’ve just got to guffaw. Let’s
giggle at the law
of gravity,
averages,
and stand in awe
of less serious things.
Hard work stands tall,
But silly
………………sings.

Love the title and was smiling with ‘..let’s supposes..’ without having to frown before.
This had me laughing so hard: “fart in the general direction”
I see “the fear that makes us wear googly eyes in there” too.
“but let’s supposes” … Love this.
And really now. Do I HAVE to quote the whole mid-section? Yes. Yes I do:
“let’s make proper fun of all
things prim. Let’s hold whim
to breeze and watch her sing,
let’s pllllllt at progress ’cuz
here’s the thing:
We’re all just doing the best
we can. Some days shine and
others dim, and sometimes
you’ve just got to guffaw. Let’s
giggle at the law”
I think I need to read this every day.
I want to laugh.. and as long as no-one farts in my direction I can wear those shoes and march around in..
I am with you….doing the silly things make me giddy and carefree ~ This gave me a big smile ~ Have a good week ~
A poem with the word fart – that has to make everyone smile! Can you imagine all the “sophisticated” poets in their ivory towers getting “wind” of this?
The sentiment is spot-on though — for anyone in a “woe-is-me” mood — realizing that life without joy and silliness is barely worth it, and so it is really important because “we’re all just doing the best / we can” and standing in awe of less serious things is so liberating.
When I face my fears from here on out I will bring this image up so that I can remember what exactly is truly important!
Silly things can be amusing! It’s good to be given doses of them to spice up life Wonderful write De!

I will keep this poem to remind me. I used to have a more active clown, shy and friendly, but I had forgotten. No big nose, but exaggerating my clumsiness for the fun of it. It drew kids out. It drew me out. Much laughter. Thank you.
LOL! Yes! Lets!
love this, from Monty Python to Singin’ In the Rain to… all you. it’s wonderful.
