Shake Well

Before opening
your mouth,
it’s best to weigh
your words. (Use
ounces, not pounds.)

Before opening
your heart,
perhaps some
semblance of dam
is in order.

Before opening
your hand
(pleased to meet you)
know that making
an acquaintance is not
the same as making
a life.

Before opening
your suitcase,
these troubled
waters tend
to get stirred,
our bridges
