Wet and Weathered Wings

Tether her to the sea
with her own jade(d)

heart, a flowed quiet
start, a startled sway.

Give her a week, an
hour, a day to hold

her breath and taste
the salt that made her.

  1. Well, I see you’re writing to the photo, but this describes you as well!

  2. Kir Piccini says:

    “the salt that made her”
    what a delicious line!

  3. Grammar Queen says:

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love every word. Poor little thing; I just want to give her a hug. There does seem to be just the tiniest different between being made of jade and being jaded.

    A flowed quiet heart.
    A flowed-quiet heart.
    A flowe(re)d quiet heart.
    A flow-red quiet heart.
    A flow-read quiet heart.

I love that line. And the word “tether.”

  4. There’s a lovely intensity about this poem. Well done.
