The Lloyd Dobler Effect

“I gave her my heart, and she gave me a pen.”
Say Anything… (1989)

I don’t want
to sell anything,
buy anything,
process anything.

The rain on my car
is a baptism,
food and sex
and spectacle; all
just hurling
towards an apocalypse.

I think I’ll take this broken,
and write my own
name.

Say any
thing
you
want;
the world’s
the same.

    This is great.

  2. Very reflective of the movie!

I love this! I enjoyed picking out the little quotes and loved how you weaved them into the verses. Say Anything has to be my favourite romance movie and about the only movie I can quote in its entirety!
(Also, don’t we all just want a Lloyd Dobler of our own? I have a poem inspired by him, too.)

  4. Lacy J says:

Just so you know, I keep coming back to read these again. These, your last two poems, I mean. They are so striking and thought-provoking. I don’t have anything I want to say, necessarily. I just love them and want to take them in repeatedly.
