…
Yesterday,
you ripped my small heart
off my sleeve
and pinned it down
to your own puffed chest,
some kind of merit
badge of honor.
See, here’s the thing:
I
have a right
to bare arms.
And you
are no boy scout.

Thanks for your positive comment on my poem. Means a lot to me since you are accomplished poet.
That’s a generous compliment, John, but for me “accomplished” just means writing every day, plodding and playing along, one word at a time. 😉 My first PAD challenge was in 2009, and I’m so thankful for the challenge and encouragement it brings. You’ve got a great voice, and I look forward to reading more of you, this month and beyond.
Excellent imagery and emotion, as usual!
Power – I hear so much strength in this, De…for some reason, I see a fierce and beautiful lioness!
And you
are no boy scout.
LOL
Oh — LOVE this, De!
Short and telling. Love it, Hannah!
I can’t help but hear the “Yesterday” as the beatle’s song!
“Be prepared” is the best advice. Boring as heck, but it always makes everything better.
Hoo-boy, that’s tellin’ ’em.
This is pretty much genius. You are so clever! I’m always so impressed with how you can take a word or a concept and turn it into such magic.
I mean really, “I have a right to bare arms”?! That is unbelievable, De. But you’re so right; we should be able to open and honest about our feelings, but we just can’t because we’ll get hurt. Wonderful writing, friend.
I liked this one quite a bit.
Your word play impresses and inspires me every single day.
Packin a punch m’lady. Awesome.
This was great – loved the puns and the laugh and the point. You make it look effortless.
Thank you all, so much.
