She is two-thirds water
and slipping farther
into moonspill,
a periodic table
of elements tipping over.

Split her atoms in two
for a better view
of ocean,
the osmosis of hope
seasoned with her own salt.

There’s an alchemy,
ancient chemistry
to her quiet flow;
full steam and far stream
and frozen ground, waiting.
