..
are we there yet? she says
againandagainandagainandagain
and finally we are, and she
runs for the highest one
(of course)
and says
push me mama
and i do and her feet
touch the trees and the clouds
and the very blue face of the sky.
she’s two, and i can still
hold her with one arm and
half my brain and my whole whole
heart and then i blink
(boom: decade later)
and it takes more heart
than i’ve got and both arms
(and both worn knees)
and we aren’t quite there
yet, and she’s the one
pushing, but
oh
how i hope those feet
reach past all these
clouds
………and fly.

So very touching and beautiful.
oh De, this took my breat away!
This is beautifully done. I love it.
Love this so…
AgainandagainAndagain line reminds me of Anne Sexton’s. This was a warm fuzzie.
Pure magic, De. Every mother can related to this. Really makes me want to treasure my last 2-year-old. 🙂 Even as my oldest is now 13! It’s wild having kids at ages spanning such a wide range.
I can only imagine. Mine are 16 months apart, so I’m raising them like a very small litter of puppies. 😉
Oh, De … touching, creatively penned (as though you couldn’t), and I can too-well relate. A WOW.
Astonishingly beautiful
Thank you so much, Debi. 🙂
