..
Shiver me timbers
and shimmer me, quick
under this evening’s
Cheshire grin,
stretched out over
this stolen sea.
Watch the stars melt
against an ebony skillet sky,
bubble over into something
simmered, salted slender,
small.
Just a slight lull, y’all,
until we dance again.
..
It’s Q44 time again! Today’s awesome word is from Victoria.
Head over to dVerse to play!
Oh I love this… simmer and shimmer… what a wonderful way to play with words, and you used them all… wonder if you can do it when we are at Quadrille 44…. 🙂
Challenge accepted, Sir. 😉
🙂
Cute! And I love your internal rhymes (and slant rhymes) with shimmer and the subtle alliteration. Very nice.
Love the way you used the current word and the past Quadrille words ~
Really admire this part:
Watch the stars melt
against an ebony skillet sky,
This reads so wonderfully, De. The sibilant sounds do shimmer and you’ve played so well with alliteration and imagery. Why is it that I think of food adjectives like delicious when I read your poetry?!
You did throw some of our other prompt words in this, De…totally delightful and enchanting, y’all! 🙂
shimmer me quick! what’s the world coming to!
Cracking quadrille, De 🙂
Write me one about a shy mer/maid? Maybe a mermaid maid, trapped on land?
Yes, please. 😉
Fantastic. This dances on my tongue!
fab 🙂
Great rhythm!
The stars melting like butter in my black cast iron pan….but oh, I must be naughty but I love reading this as making love…until we dance again….oh yes. And yes again. Your way with words is astounding.
You simmered this one skillfully in your ebony skillet 😉
I’m grinning a big cheshire grin!
Love this, and pirates make me smile! My 2 year old grand-daughter has discovered Jake and the Neverland Pirates, so goes around saying yo-ho-ho…:) … shimmer me, quick… wonderful!
I love this pirate poem, De. It’s quick and humorous, I especially love the Cheshire grin and the ebony skillet sky!
“Ebony skillet sky” – That phrase is stellar! (pun only slightly intended)
You had me with the first line and the Cheshire grin! 🙂 Enjoyed this immensely! Great word play….and sound and imagery here!
loved the dance of consonants and images
This was great. Who knew pirates could be so poetic. 🙂
I like the playful vibe in this piece, and especially, the images you conjured in the second stanza. 🙂
Oh my goodness…this has it’s own personality…witty, whimsical and wonderful!! Loved it. 🙂
