…
Have I somehow stunned
…f a r e w e l l
into this sky with stars?
You’ve waved, as though this
breeze might carry you away.
If I simply spill here, falling
broken,
can I convince you to stay?

I love how, when stretched, “farewell” becomes “fairy well.”
I loved this. The briefness, like a twinge of unbearable sadness that passes through you before you master yourself and push it back. I love the drawn out farewell; how the poem captures and freezes this moment in time before a parting. And the appeal at the end of the poem is touching in its sincerity
Such power in the brevity of your verse ❤
Beautifully penned (as always) 🙂
Lots of love,
Sanaa
A farewell that came to the lips, then morphs into reality; strong imaginative focused take on the prompt.
That long farewell. Oh my heart, how this caused me to read and re-read several times.
That second stanza I really like… there’s something so poetic about a wave, an old, almost forgotten wave.
Oh I love the last stanza… a plea that rises to the stars..
The stretched farewell made me think how difficult it is to part… wonderful
I love everything about this! Especially the middle stanza. Wonderful!
Those are the worst goodbyes. ..where one is eager to leave, and the other wishes to cling forever
Being left to fare well on your own without reprise is cruel indeed. No repast or final goodbye is unsettling
Loved this – been there… it’s so hard.
Very very heartfelt – your words spoke to me.
Love the ending words De ~
Stay? You had me at f a r e w e l l! I’m not going anywhere! 😉 Sweetly done, De. Sweetly Dundee? I think I know her! Love it, Lady!
