…
Shadow that wily moon.
Let’s find a way to make her
swoon to something
besides
this scattered sky,
these changing tides.
She needs a good spanking,
really. A hankering for something other
than salt,
water;
the quiet waning of crescent,
the dust of stars.
..
I’m hosting the (oops, early today, don’t ask) Quadrille prompt over at dVerse.
Come play!
What are you doing to that poor old ‘wily moon’? Spanking! But honestly, this is wonderful, De! I love the pattern of full rhyme rhyme with ‘swoon/moon’ and near rhyme with ‘spanking/hankering’ that gives it a playful air. I also love the contrast between the two stanzas, from ‘scattered sky’ and ‘changing tides’ (quite disorganised, really) to the calm of the ‘quiet waning of crescent,/the dust of stars’.
Thanks, kim. We gotta keep that cheeky wench in line anyway we can. 😉

Lovely way to look at the moon!
Thanks, annell. I can’t ever stop looking at her. Happy to find new ways, sometimes. 😉
Oh I do think that wily moon needs spanking too… Maybe she would wane a little less.
Love your sweet chiding our our dear moon. In fact, she does do weird things to me…not hair growing on the face, just sleepless night and crabby days after. The title is exquisite.
Reblogged this on writing in north norfolk and commented:
I just had to reblog this wily moon!
Oh, this is playful and mysterious and lovely all at the same time. I’m all awestruck. I love it all, probably liking the scattered sky best. I know those skies.
I like this, funny and feisty. And thanks for the prompt!
You know me, I’m all about spanking, but I love the shadow dance as the wily moon plays tag with the sun as the stars bathe in salt water.
Incongruous – unless the moon was … but no, there’s no excuse.
Ha! I enjoyed the idea of giving the moon a quick spanking! Lovely… and thank you for hosting tonight!
Spank the moon!!! Somehow I keep thinking of “twirking-” is that the name for it? A modern new dance move! Oh that wiley moon!!!
Oh! ❤️ Such playfulness in your verse here, De ❤️ especially love the images of ‘the quiet waning of crescent, the dust of stars.’ Beautifully executed.
Ha. Was that wily moon related to that Wile E. Coyote.
He certainly could have used a spanking….
for those of you who do not know Mr. Coyote:

LOVES me some Wile E. 🙂
I love the use of shadow in your poem De ~ She needs a good spanking, smiles ~
Sorry. I meant to only show the link, not insert the cartoon. Randy
I love this playful and fun, with a bit of a reprimand, homage to that wily moon. Yes, maybe she does need a change of scenery!
In some regard, the sun needs to do the spanking just before the silver sliver wench fades & flees; just saying.
Ha. I think she’s the one who spanks him. 😛
Interesting idea that the moon needs a spanking.
How delightful and playful.
I never thought of the moon needing a spanking 🙂
Clever use of the prompt…loved it
oh De, must we spank that dear old moon 😉
I always love the journey of your imagination. Yes, that silly moon needs a change of scenery. She doesn’t get out much, does she? Well, not entirely!

Such a very playful piece, De! 🙂
This is wonderfully playful and so well crafted, brilliant! :o)
I think I sometimes feel just like this moon. This is stunning, De.
Oh my. Spanking the moon. Is that the metaphorical moon, as in the one we show when mooning someone? 😉 Good work on a unique and playful poem, De. Watch out moon, De’s on your tail! Hehe 🙂

Spanking the moon, might add some luster…
Ha, that’s a bit different from the usual romantic views of the moon! Delicious writing.
This one made me smile. Ah, naughty moon. 😊
