Crum, Bling

Give us cookies,
shiny things. That we might leave
a trail, might find our way back
home.

Give us stones
unstacked and
thrown only into sea,
river rock turning water
to power.

Give us hours
and stories. Smiles.
A way to see each other through
all this skin.

Give us new
beginnings. Gates.
Bridges. Ways to hold
another hand, understand
a mile in unfamiliar shoes.

Give us second chances,
grace. A wide bright open
sky and a way to connect
these star-dots into
something more
than great.

Oh! You drop bling like crumbs from a gilt coffee cake in this! “river rock turning water
to power.”. Wow! And all that skin, I do enjoy so much but wow it does get in the way sometimes! What a wish! What a gift!

The whole piece exudes a wonderful sense of hope, but I really love that last verse and how it feels limitless.

  10. Yes! the title is just fantastic… and the poem, with the bridges and the gates. Fantastic how the wall became no wall.

  11. Iris says:

“Give us new” … How clever, doubling “us” as “U.S.” You do all sorts of things like this when you write. I see it all, of course. Like the “grrr eat” at the end.

Often the fault of many, to be too quick to condemn. Lots of goodness in people who may have made a mistake but are remorseful and ready to make amends!
