what if this

poe umm
is a tell-tale heart,
an unquiet start
-led by nothing
more than the
ghost of something

what if she’s tested
the waters and found
them too salty, faulty
in all their storms?

what if this is the new
normal? what if normal’s
nothing new? what if,
for all of her to-dos,
there were no checks
or marks, or

what if this poem
were a still small
sound? the founding
of her heartbeat,
the beat of wings,
the bleat of pasture
and past

what if this
(this poem, this heart,
this song, this sound,
never made it past
its own dark

    Clever closing.
    I also love these:
    “the beat of wings,
    the bleat of pasture”
the title with the first two lines

  2. Misky says:

I quite simply love that last stanza, De.
