Schooled Poem

 .

This poem knows a thing or
two, turns out. Doubt
her if you must, but
she’s been around the block
and down the street
and see that corner over
there? She ruled it, once.

She’s once bitten, twice
shy. She’s been lied to,
stomped on, left for dead.
She’s got voices in her head
that nobody wants to hear
……………(but she’s learned
……………..to ignore them.)

See, the only thing that
matters is the fire at her
center. That mangy moon.
The way the sky slants
just right when it rains.
