For pete’s sake, give the girl
a pen and whole ream of trees
and a balmy breeze and a
little seawater for her toes.
Suppose her a song, a siren,
a long long way from home
and all these words that just
might lead back there if she
winds them just right. Borrow
her a tight space with a key
-board for clacking black
and looking back at her former
selves. A few shelves for what
happens next. A mix tape full
of silence. A way to be bold,
italicize her soul. Sharpen
her pencil, her senses, the
fences she builds around her
heart with inky iron. Stoke the
fires she tends. Befriend her
eraser again. Solve the case
(on point, en pointe) of her
missing pieces. A parchment
floating by. A sigh. A relief of sky.
