Ocean Sirens

..

We tried to tell you
the storm was coming,
but you didn’t listen
to the waves or the tides;
the wisdom of the moon
or the scent of salt.

We are distant
-ly
…………..(resistant-ly)
related to those of you
with legs and an incurable
case of the blues
(these hues we own,
our home),

so
stop painting us in evil
strokes; we water folks
aren’t fighting you. We’re
righting your souls.

We haven’t come for some
negotiation of song, some
longing for stone or sand.
You can have your
dust-filled land. We’ll hold
our depth, our sway,
our rippled fill.

But still, we’ll rise
that morning sun
right up,
and offer it like a secret
to your waiting skin.

The whole thing is great, but “offer it like a secret / to your waiting skin.” is phenomenal.

Now De, you know exactly how I feel about this. I’m trying to contain my jubilation and behave appropriately (on paper), but inside, oh, my insides are screaming a different story.

    I especially love this:
    “so
    stop painting us in evil
    strokes; we water folks
    aren’t fighting you”

Inclusion… A love is love is love moment.
A love story that goes to the depths of our souls. ❤
