Corners(tones) First

..

She’s been home
all of four days and she’s still
trying to muddle-puzzle
(befuddled,
tear-puddled)
out what this desert
-cycle
life is all about, how to scratch
…..her name in more than Lake-soaked sand
and
…..the itch
to be
where sacred water flutter
-feather
………….kisses land.

Back from several different forms of paradise, and happy to make today’s dVerse quadrille by Mish my first poem back. Come play!

  1. this is a lovely, rich and metaphor soaked poem – it’s tight, condense and word perfect –
I also like the word play and formatting – and when I hit the lines:
    how to scratch
…..her name in more than Lake-soaked sand
    – this is when I stopped for more than a pause and felt such essence in needing the answers to the puzzle we call life … but somehow letting it all be washed away, at least for a time, until weightless – as feathered wings ….
which is the puzzling conundrum of life: wanting answers, and definition and yet wanting absolute freedom and ease …

    refreshing poem!

  2. Shasta says:

    “sacred water flutter”

    I love that phrase.

Scratching her name in lake soaked sand…. a great line!

I guess she prefers the beach.

Welcome back, De! I missed your wordplay and am soaking up this ‘muddle-puzzle (befuddled,
tear-puddled)’ quadrille! I especially love the lines:
    ‘…the itch
    to be
    where sacred water flutter
    -feather
    ………….kisses land’.

  6. sanaarizvi says:

Soo good to read you again, De! ❤ I love the image “where sacred water flutter-feather … kisses land.” 😊

  7. lillian says:

Welcome back, De! SO glad to see your words here, your style….
ah, life on the desert. Funny, we spent so many many years in the midwest before moving to Boston in ’97. And now I wonder how we could have ever lived that far away from the ocean? 🙂
BUT — we have the most amazing photos of desert, dunes, a solo bloom on a cactus from a vacation we took many years ago out west. There is a beauty in the desert as well….I think Georgia O’Keefe….:)

  8. Jo says:

    Welcome back, De!
I loved your piece and thought these lines especially gorgeous —
    “where sacred water flutter
    -feather
    kisses land’

  9. qbit says:

    Ah, nice. Glad you’re back!

  10. welcome back though you are only half here from there in heart
    “how to scratch
…..her name in more than Lake-soaked sand” – speaks volumes of the brevity of holidays and being!

  11. Love to have you back… I know exactly how you feel when you are back like that, and Stockholm feels exactly like a desert at the moment.

Love the lake sand you describe.

  12. Oh, wow, great wordplay. You are the mistress of that, and it works really well with this prompt. So free. Nice to see you back.

  13. A delight, De Jackson! Happy you’re back! 🙂

  14. whimsygizmo says:

Forgot to say that I snuck the words “cycle” and “itch” in here, too. I missed two quadrilles while I was gone (both mentally and physically.)

  15. Mish says:

Oh I knew you’d play well with the word. I adore ” sacred water flutter
    -feather
    ………….kisses land.”

  16. Lake-soaked land made me think of quicksand, difficult to escape from.

Use your words.
