Andromeda

She sheds her sky
-skin
to begin, and reassembles herself

…………………………………sane.

.

She gives the moon a shattered star
-smooch,
with lips of wax

………………………….and wane.

Most, most excellent. Shedding sky skin is a beautiful image, and “lips of wax and wane” brilliant.

  2. robtkistner says:

This is a killer poem De, and I love the play on the moon phases…

  3. rothpoetry says:

You are very clever…. with lips of wax and wain!! Love it!

  4. Love this, especially that last stanza: smooch,
    with lips of wax

    ………………………….and wane.
    so, so good!

  5. Violet Lentz says:

Lips of wax and wane… very clever!

This is such a delicate poem, De, I was almost afraid to read it! I love the sounds of ‘She sheds her sky / -skin /to begin’, with the silver sounds of sibilance punctuated with the more solid ‘begin’ and that ‘-smooch, /with lips of wax / and wane’ melted me.

  7. positively ethereal and so lyrical!

  8. Shawna says:

I like the idea that your “she-shed’s the sky.” 🙂

I want one of those SO badly!!! But not the sky; an actual tiny cottage of my own. With lots of bright colors, of course.

“Lips of wax” is my favorite … you know I’m all about that makeup.

  9. lillian says:

So sibilant in the first line — set me up to start again and read it aloud 🙂 And oh that smooch! LOVE it! Clever, whimsical, and sounds wonderful to read aloud!

PS: Forgot to mention….made me smile when I read “lips of wax” remembering how I loved those red wax lips I bought at the five and dime down the street from where we lived!

Every one has expressed all my thoughts- what can I add? How about a Collom Lune?

  13. kanzensakura says:

I love your play with words in the final lines; lips of wax and wane. LOL. Reminds me of those chewy red wax lips of my childhood.

  14. Charley says:

Oh my! Wonderful layout of words for a pun. Especially when read… allowed.

  15. merrildsmith says:

Oh, this is just a total delight! So clever with the word play, but it in a fun way–those lips that wax and wane. 🙂

  16. whimsygizmo says:

    Thanks, all.
And I’m so glad some of you had the same memory/chuckle at “lips of wax” that I did. 😉

  17. “a shattered star smooch” – Love that, De, as well as those insanely funny wax lips!
