They’d rather be pirates than princesses;
the games just look more fun. They’ll don
some swords, learn some salty words
and parley silk for sun.
They’d rather be pirates than princesses,
so they strike out for sea with flags un
-furled, these savvy, wily wildling girls
with patches on their knees.
They’d rather be pirates than princesses;
corsets and crowns fill them with dread.
They’ll free their necks and swab some
decks and walk the plank instead.
They’d rather be pirates than princesses,
and they’ve nothing left to lose.
Even a pegleg is better than
than those awful fragile shoes.
They’d rather be pirates than princesses,
with penchants for storms and ale.
A parrot beats a prince any day
(and dead men tell no tales.)
Oh,
you’d rather be pirate than princess?
Then swim, and follow me.
Just patch one eye and scream to sky.
The mantra of a true banshee:
X marks the spot more times than not
when it comes to being free.

Quickly, day 13.
Splendidly fun!
De lightful
…I’m on that crew 100%!
So much fun should be in a kid’s poetry book.
So, so good. Every stanza just gets better and better. Great use of “banshee.” Loved “patches on their knees.”
I always knew my penchant for storms and ale kinda ruled out the possibility of my becoming a princess. Great fun!
This should be hung in every little girls room!
Who wouldn’t want to be a pirate?
