The way the earth smells, after a storm

she thinks
the world turns on a song
spilled out long and lean
along a riverbank
flanked by pebbled hearts waiting.

he drinks
her words like quiet raindrops,
stops only long
enough to remind
himself to breathe.

So, to me, she might actually BE the storm and he might BE the earth … or the other way around. I also have another theory about the title, but I’m just gonna keep it to myself. šŸ™‚

    “she thinks
the world turns on a song” … Um, there’s no “thinks” about it. This is absolutely true!

    So gorgeous: “he drinks
    her words like quiet raindrops”

    “stops only long
enough to remind” … So much tucked in here. If you are “only,” then you are either by yourself or you are in an “only” relationship … meaning that you’re committed to someone. And obviously there’s some serious heaviness and sadness associated with both, because it just gets sad, either way. So you have to put a stop to the “long” somehow … you have to “re-mind” or figure out how to get your head straight so that you can keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I love your brain … and your line breaks. Always.

Use your words.
